SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Please read the following information carefully.

We regret that we can't review any submissions that fail to follow these guidelines.

WHAT TO SUBMIT

Shamrock seeks: haiku, senryu and haibun. We will also consider haiku-related essays.

WHAT NOT TO SUBMIT

Shamrock does not consider for publication: pseudohaiku, tanka, renga/renku or any other linked forms.

We do not consider haiku or senryu sequences by one or multiple poets; if we receive these, we will consider parts of the sequence as standalone poems.

We do not review unsolicited haiku collections or chapbook manuscripts, so please inquire before sending us review copies.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Please create an account on Green Submissions and use Submission Manager to send us your haiku. If you experience any difficulties with Submission Manager, please let us know.

Please type your poems ONE UNDER ANOTHER, with a noticeable interval between them, in the body of your cover letter. Please DO NOT submit each poem separately; if we receive ten submissions each containing one poem we'll only read the first. If you feel you must send your submission as a file, please make sure it is a .doc or an .rtf file. We do not recommend sending us .docx files because most of them get corrupted on the way.

On all submissions, please include a short biographical note and indicate your geographic location.

Haiku/senryu: Shamrock will consider haiku/senryu of any school written in English.

We do not regard the 5-7-5 haiku model as essential. To get an idea of what is fit for Shamrock, please visit our Haiku Guidelines page

https://irishhaiku.com/haikuguidelines.htm

Please send us up to 10 haiku/senryu, or one haibun, at a time for consideration. All haiku/senryu/haibun must be unpublished original work of the author. We do accept translations if the name of the translator is included and the poet consented to such publication. We occasionally assist in editing the English translations of selected haiku/senryu. We do not accept work that is under consideration elsewhere, or has appeared in chapbooks, magazines, e-zines, websites, blogs, discussion boards, festival programs, leaflets, etc. Double submission of work to Shamrock and to another magazine, or a contest, is not allowed.

Please DO NOT submit your material more than once during a year.
Please DO NOT submit more than once for the same issue.
We do not publish the same writer more than once a year, and never in consecutive issues.

We normally don't publish more than 6 poems per poet per issue.

Shamrock is a web journal that comes out twice per year, in early March and in early September. The deadlines for these issues are 28th February and 31st August. Submissions are accepted at any time except the Christmas period and a few days when a new issue is in preparation. Please note that if we do a thematic issue, publication of any accepted material may be delayed. We are unable to enter into any kind of correspondence regarding any of our editorial decisions.

If your work is included in Shamrock, please credit the journal as Shamrock or Shamrock Haiku Journal. Thank you in advance.
